Check Test Training CPD

Check Test Training Surrey Instructor PaulIt doesn’t matter how long you have been working as an instructor, when you get ‘the letter’ you get those butterflies inside. What we can do for you at m & m Driving School Surrey is help, guide and get you through your check test training Surrey whether it is your very first one or the next in many you have already had. Or you might just want to improve your grade from last time.

Back in March 2008 I achieved my third Grade 6 in a row, something I am sure you will understand I am very proud of. Just like everybody else I worked up to this grade and have steadily progressed from 1988 and a grade 4 up to a grade 5 and since then my last three results have been at a grade 6.

Having been an ORDIT Trainer in Surrey Driving schools for many years has also helped in my approach to passing on my skills to fellow instructors who also wish to improve their own grade. If you are a driving instructor in and around the Surrey area then chances are I can help you so feel free to give me a call!

The regulations for check test training qualifications state the ADI shall be assessed on instructional abilities and particularly on the following qualities;

  • Method, clarity, adequacy & correctness of instruction

  • Observation and proper correction of pupils’ errors

  • Manner, patience and tact in dealing with pupils’ errors

  • Ability to inspire confidence

Core Competencies

In this section of the check test training exam, the assessment of all faults, both major and minor over the whole lesson should be considered and not individual faults. For example, some explanations may be correct and some may be incorrect, the grade given depends on the balance of correct and incorrect.

  • Faults  Identified - clearly identify all the important faults committed by the pupil.

  • Fault Analysis - identify a fault, analyse accurately the cause and offer an analysis to pupil

  • Remedial Action - offering constructive and appropriate action or advice to remedy a fault

In all cases the instructor must explain to the pupil what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how they can stop the fault happening again to improve on future check test training grades.

Instructional Techniques

In this section there are another 10 areas that will also need to be addressed. Starting with the recap of your previous lesson to the recap at the end of your current lesson.

Instructional Characteristics

This takes into account the skills used by the ADI to create a relaxed but supportive learning environment. In this section there are 5 areas the examiner will be looking for to build up the overall assessment.
